Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends–including from the home medicine cabinet. To help tackle this alarming trend, on April 29 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is hosting National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
During take back events organized across the country, the DEA and its partners will accept pills and patches for disposal. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. A listing of DEA collection sites is available online along with educational and marketing materials in English and Spanish. To find an independent pharmacy in your area that offers drug disposal year-round, visit the locator page of Dispose My Meds.
